Can Christians Go to Therapy? Faith and Counseling

A person wearing a blue shirt is sitting with an open book, possibly a Bible, on their lap. The focus is on the books pages, while the persons upper body is blurred in the background.

Faith and professional counseling are not opposites. The Bible affirms seeking wise counsel, and God consistently worked through people to bring healing to His own. For many believers, therapy is one of the ways God provides restoration, not a replacement for Him, but a resource He provides.

You have questions. That is understandable. You may wonder whether sitting with a therapist somehow signals a lack of trust in God. You may have heard voices from within yourself or from others suggesting that prayer and faith alone should be enough. That tension is real. It deserves an honest answer.

This post is for you if you are a Christian wrestling with whether therapy aligns with your faith. It is not here to push you toward a decision. It is here to offer perspective grounded in Scripture, in the lives of biblical figures, and in a compassionate reading of what God has always done for His people.
